What a premium domain is actually worth

A registration fee is not a price. The price is what a specific buyer will pay to stop using a weaker name.

Start with whether the string is a dictionary word, a clean compound, or an invention. Dictionary words on .com still sit at the top. Inventions win when they are short, spellable, and not already a trademark in the buyer's class.

Then look at the extension. .monster, .gold, .ing, and .ltd are not discounts on .com. They are different products. A .monster name is worth more when the brand wants attitude and the matching .com is a parked billboard.

Expired domains are a separate market. Age and backlinks only matter if the links are real. This desk does not sell expired inventory. Every name here was chosen.

Comparable sales set a range. They do not set your price. Leave room for a conversation.
